Unboxing My New Acer Nitro V 15 Laptop ★★★★☆

After much consideration, I finally took the plunge and snagged a new laptop from good ol’ Bing Lee.

A Cracking Deal or Too Good to Be True?

The Acer Nitro caught my eye with its 13th Gen Intel i9-13900H processor, 32GB DDR5 RAM, 1TB SSD, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card. All at a price that seemed almost too good to be true. But hey, Bing Lee’s been around the block, and Acer’s a brand I can bank on, so I took it. I assumed it was only half as good as it sounds to keep my expectations in check.

First Impressions – Boxception

The laptop arrived just before Christmas, neatly packed in a high-quality carton. When I cracked it open, I was greeted by another box—there it was: the Nitro-branded carton.

Digging in, the first thing that caught my eye was the hefty charger—a throwback to a different age.

There was also a sealed envelope with the usual bits and bobs: warranty information, a few stickers (the kids love those), and some documents. Sadly, there was no printed user manual.

The Big Reveal – Laptop Time!

Unwrapping the laptop took a moment. The black, matte finish looked classy—nothing too flashy, just understated and solid.

For some reason, my camera picked up a bit of dust on the surface, but honestly, I’m not fussed. At this price point, I’m not expecting Rolls-Royce perfection.

The back of the laptop features a beefy ventilation window.

I was pleased to see a numeric keypad on the keyboard—something I’ve always desired in computer keyboards.

It’s not a deal-breaker, but it would’ve been a nice feature to lay the screen completely flat at 180 degrees.

Setting Up – The Good, The Bad, and The Noisy

Getting the laptop up and running was smooth.

I tried using the Thunderbolt 4 port for charging, but it didn’t work. I still can’t figure out how to set up USB charging.

Initially, the fan noise was a bit loud. But once everything was installed and running, it quieted right down without bothering me at all.

Early Thoughts – Promising Start

I’m not ready to call this the best laptop since sliced bread, but so far, it’s ticking the right boxes. The build feels solid, the specs are bonza, and the setup was a breeze. I’ll need a bit more time to test it, especially for my work tasks.

Stay tuned. If I find time later, I’ll share an update on my performance review.

Cheers to Bing Lee and Acer for bringing a bit of excitement to the silly season!
